Version 1.0
Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: 20/09/2026
How CrewD collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects personal information.
This Privacy Policy explains how CrewD Pty Ltd (ABN 39 698 048 270) (we, us or our) collects, holds, uses, discloses and protects your personal information when you visit our website, register for an account, join our waitlist or use the Platform. We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
The Platform is an online construction hiring platform that connects Employers who post work with Tradies who are looking for work. Employers can create business profiles, post jobs and projects, receive applications, send offers and manage confirmed hires. Tradies can create a Crew Card, browse opportunities, apply for work, receive offers and manage confirmed work. CrewD acts as an intermediary. It does not employ users, and does not process wages or payments between Employers and Tradies.
Please read this Privacy Policy together with our Platform Terms of Use. Capitalised terms have the meaning given to them in those terms.
About this Privacy Policy
By using the Platform, or by providing your personal information to us, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with how we handle personal information as described in this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Platform.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time in accordance with clause 18.
The personal information we collect
Personal information has the meaning given in the Privacy Act. The kinds of personal information we collect depend on whether you use the Platform as an Employer or a Tradie and on how you interact with us, and may include:
your name, email address, phone number, postal or business address and general location, such as your suburb and state;
your account and profile details, including your username, the credentials used to secure your account, your contact preferences and any profile photo you provide;
your date of birth, where we collect it to confirm your eligibility to use the Platform or as part of identity or qualification verification;
if you are a Tradie, your Crew Card information, including your trade or occupation, skills, work and employment history, resume or curriculum vitae details, availability, and the licences, qualifications, tickets, White Cards, certificates and related licence or certificate numbers and issue and expiry dates that you upload for verification;
if you are an Employer, your business details, including your business or company name, Australian Business Number (ABN) or Australian Company Number (ACN), business contact details and the name and role of the individual acting for the business;
your activity on the Platform, including jobs and projects you post, applications you make, offers you send or receive, confirmed hires, reviews and ratings, and the timestamps and history associated with that activity;
information you provide when you report another user or item of content, or that we generate when we moderate content or manage an account;
the content of your communications with us, including support requests, enquiries and feedback; and
your IP address, and device, browser and usage information collected automatically as described in clause 15.
Where it is appropriate and practicable to do so, at or around the time we collect personal information we will explain why we are collecting it and how we plan to use it.
How we collect personal information
We collect personal information directly from you when you join our waitlist, register, create an account, complete your profile or Crew Card, post or apply for work, submit a review, contact us, or otherwise use the Platform or interact with us.
We collect certain information automatically when you use the Platform, including through server logs and analytics, as described in clause 15.
Because the Platform connects two sides of a marketplace, we may receive personal information about you from another user. For example, an Employer may provide information about you when posting work or making an offer, a Tradie's application and Crew Card are provided to the Employer to whom they apply, and a review posted by one user may contain personal information about another.
Where you provide licences, qualifications, tickets, White Cards, certificates or business details for verification, we may collect personal information about you from the relevant issuing body, a public register, such as ABN Lookup or a licensing or registration authority, or a third-party verification provider, as described in clause 5.
If you are an Employer providing personal information about your personnel or other individuals, you are responsible for ensuring that you are authorised to provide it to us and for making those individuals aware of this Privacy Policy.
Why we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information
We collect, hold, use and disclose personal information for the following purposes:
to create, verify, administer and secure your account, and to authenticate users;
to provide, operate, maintain and improve the Platform and its features;
to enable Employers to create business profiles, post jobs and projects, receive applications, send offers and manage confirmed hires, and to enable Tradies to create a Crew Card, browse opportunities, apply for work, receive offers and manage confirmed work;
to facilitate applications, offers and confirmed hires, and, once an offer has been accepted and a hire confirmed, to release the relevant contact details so that the Employer and Tradie can deal with each other directly;
to verify licences, qualifications, tickets, White Cards, certificates and business details, and to display verification status, as described in clause 5;
to operate reviews, ratings and reputation features, and reporting and moderation functions;
to maintain the security and integrity of the Platform and to detect, prevent and address misuse, fraud and other harmful activity;
to communicate with you, including about your account, changes to the Platform, and responses to your enquiries;
to send you marketing communications where you have consented and have not opted out, and where permitted by law, consistent with clause 14;
to comply with our legal obligations; and
to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, and to protect the rights, safety and property of us, our users and others.
We will only use or disclose your personal information for a secondary purpose where you would reasonably expect it, where you have consented, or where the use or disclosure is otherwise permitted under the APPs.
Verification of licences, qualifications and business details
The Platform offers functionality that allows Tradies to upload licences, qualifications, tickets, White Cards and certificates, and Employers to provide business details, so that these can be verified and a verification status displayed on a profile or Crew Card.
Where you provide information for verification, you consent to us using and disclosing that information for the purpose of verifying it. This may include checking the information with the relevant issuing body, a public register, such as ABN Lookup or a licensing or registration authority, or a third-party verification provider.
A verification status indicates only that a check of the stated kind was carried out at a point in time. It is not a representation or guarantee by us of a person's identity, competency, suitability, or the currency, validity or ongoing status of any licence, qualification, ticket or business detail.
We retain records of verification we carry out for the period described in clause 12.
Sensitive information and government related identifiers
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or an opinion about such things as an individual's health, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a professional or trade association, sexual orientation, or criminal record. We do not require you to provide sensitive information in order to register for or use the Platform.
Some information collected in connection with a Tradie's qualifications or memberships may be sensitive information. Where we hold sensitive information, we will use and disclose it only for the purpose for which it was collected, for a directly related secondary purpose you would reasonably expect, with your consent, or where required or authorised by law. You should not include sensitive information in the Platform unless it is necessary for verification or your use of the Platform, and you have the authority and any required consents to do so.
Some licences, tickets, certificates and similar documents contain government related identifiers, such as licence numbers. We collect, use and disclose government related identifiers only to the extent reasonably necessary to verify your identity or qualifications, or where required or authorised by law. We do not adopt a government related identifier as our own identifier of you.
Smart matching and artificial intelligence
The Platform may use algorithmic and artificial intelligence tools to suggest and prioritise opportunities, Employers and Tradies, and to assist with matching, search and related features.
These tools are a decision-support aid. They assist you and other users, who remain responsible for reviewing suggestions and making your own decisions. We do not use solely automated processing to make decisions about you that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you. Decisions that could reasonably be expected to significantly affect you, such as suspending or removing your account, are not made solely by automated means and involve human review.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not provide the personal information you supply at sign-up, such as your name or email address, to third parties to train their own artificial intelligence models.
Who we disclose personal information to
We disclose personal information to the following third-party service providers when it is required to operate the Platform:
| Supabase | Database, storage and backend hosting for the Platform. |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Website and application hosting and infrastructure. |
| Resend | Transactional and account email delivery. |
| Account authentication (Google sign-in) (United States). | |
These providers are only given access to the personal information they need to perform their function for us.
We may also disclose your personal information:
to other users of the Platform, to the extent the Platform is designed to share profiles, Crew Cards, posts, applications, offers, reviews and related content, as described in clause 9;
where you consent to the use or disclosure;
to an issuing body, public register or verification provider for the purpose of verification, as described in clause 5;
where required or authorised by law, including in response to a subpoena, warrant, court order, or a lawful request from a regulator or law enforcement agency;
where reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim, or to prevent a serious threat to life, health or safety; and
to a purchaser or successor in connection with a sale, merger or transfer of all or part of our business, on the basis that the recipient handles your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Information visible to other users of the Platform
The Platform is designed to share certain information between users so that Employers and Tradies can connect. Depending on how you use the Platform, information you provide may be visible to other users. For example, a Tradie's Crew Card and application may be visible to the Employer to whom they apply, an Employer's business profile and job posts may be visible to Tradies, and reviews and ratings may be visible to other users.
Your contact details are not disclosed between an Employer and a Tradie until an offer has been accepted and the hire confirmed. After that point, the Employer and Tradie can contact each other directly, and any engagement between them takes place directly and is not controlled by us, although we continue to record certain information relating to the Confirmed Hire, such as the confirmed work, relevant dates, completion status and any reviews.
You should only include in your profile, Crew Card, posts, applications and reviews information that you are willing to share with other users. You are responsible for the personal information about yourself and others that you choose to make available through the Platform.
Overseas disclosure
Some of the personal information we handle may be stored or processed outside Australia by our service providers, including in the United States. This may occur, for example, where we use overseas providers for hosting, storage, email delivery and authentication, as described in clause 8.
Before disclosing personal information overseas, we take steps that are reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the recipient handles the information consistently with the APPs, unless an exception under APP 8 applies. You acknowledge that overseas recipients are not required to comply with the APPs, and that by using the Platform you consent to this disclosure on that basis. To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for how an overseas recipient handles your information in these circumstances.
How we keep personal information secure
We are committed to protecting your personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including HTTPS and TLS encryption in transit, authentication controls and secure hosting.
No method of transmission over the internet or method of storage is completely secure. While we work to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and any transmission of data is at your own risk.
We comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in Part IIIC of the Privacy Act. Where we suspect an eligible data breach may have occurred, we will carry out an assessment within 30 days of becoming aware of the grounds for that suspicion, and if we determine that an eligible data breach has occurred, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as soon as practicable.
How long we keep personal information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, to comply with our legal obligations, and to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
Where we no longer need your personal information for any purpose for which it may be used or disclosed under this Privacy Policy and the Privacy Act, and we are not required by law or a court or tribunal order to retain it, we will take reasonable steps to destroy the information or to de-identify it.
When you close your account, your profile information and credentials are deleted or de-identified. However, some information may be retained where we are permitted or required to keep it, including to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. Content you have contributed to the Platform, such as
reviews, and information other users hold about their dealings with you, may remain after your account is closed. Backup copies may take up to 30 days to be fully removed.
Accessing and correcting your personal information
You may access and update much of your personal information directly through your account settings.
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading, by contacting us using the details in clause 19.
We will respond to a request within a reasonable period. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will not charge you a fee for making an access request, although we may charge a reasonable administrative fee for the time and cost involved in providing a copy of the information, and we will tell you about any such fee before we proceed. If we refuse a request, we will give you written reasons and information about how to complain, except where it would be unreasonable to do so.
Direct marketing and electronic messages
We may send you commercial electronic messages, such as marketing emails, about the Platform and related services where you have consented, such as by joining our waitlist or by separately opting in to marketing, or where we are otherwise permitted to do so. Creating an account is not by itself consent to receive marketing. We will comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
Every marketing message we send will identify us and include a functional unsubscribe facility. You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe function in the message or by contacting us using the details in clause 19. Opting out of marketing does not affect the service and account messages that are necessary for the operation of your account and your use of the Platform.
Cookies and analytics
Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help websites recognise you and improve your experience. We use cookies for authentication and security, and, where enabled, for analytics and advertising. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may prevent you from logging in or using some features of the Platform.
We may use analytics and advertising services to understand how the Platform is used and to promote the Platform. Where we do, you can manage your preferences through your browser settings and the settings offered by the relevant provider.
Children
The Platform is intended for use by people who are at least 16 years of age. It is not intended for, and must not be used by, anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 16. Where a person is 16 or 17 years of age, we collect and handle their personal information on the basis that a parent or guardian has consented to their use of the Platform, as described in our Platform Terms of Use. Where a person is 16 or 17, we may also collect the name and contact details of their parent or guardian in order to obtain and record that consent.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a person under 16, or from a person aged 16 or 17 without appropriate parental or guardian consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information and close any associated account. We take additional care with the personal information of users under 18, and handle it in accordance with the Privacy Act and any applicable privacy code.
Complaints
If you believe we have breached the APPs or otherwise mishandled your personal information, please contact us using the details in clause 19. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to respond within a reasonable period, and in any event within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal obligations. The current version will be published on our website with its effective date.
Where a change materially affects how we handle your personal information, we will provide reasonable notice before it takes effect. Your continued use of the Platform after a change takes effect indicates your acknowledgement of the updated Privacy Policy.
